- Grab a medium mixing bowl and add 1 cup of mayonnaise.
- Add 2 tablespoons of finely chopped dill pickles to the bowl.
- Toss in 1 tablespoon of capers, either whole or slightly chopped.
- Pour in 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and stir to combine.
- Mix in 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard.
- Add 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- Optionally, stir in chopped shallots or red onion, garlic powder, or hot sauce to your preference.
- Stir all ingredients together thoroughly until smooth and creamy.
- Cover and chill the tartar sauce in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use quality mayonnaise and finely chop all mix-ins for the best texture. Homemade tartar sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week in an airtight container. Make it vegan by using egg-free mayo and checking condiment labels.
