Ingredients
Method
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until completely combined with no lumps.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture for about 20 seconds per side, making sure it is coated but not overly soaked.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter until it sizzles gently without burning.
- Place a soaked slice of bread onto the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, turning once, until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Add more butter to the skillet if it becomes dry, and continue cooking the remaining slices.
- Serve hot with maple syrup and powdered sugar, or your favorite toppings.
Notes
Use thick, day-old bread like brioche or challah for the best texture. Keep extra slices warm in a 200°F oven while cooking batches. You can also freeze leftovers and reheat in a toaster for quick mornings. Try adding orange zest to the custard for a flavor boost.
